A Memo to the President of the Big Private University Free Essays
Madam, the recent events that have brought our university within the mediaââ¬â¢s limelight may possibly give problems to the University, if no immediate action is taken. Allow me to outline the events and the possible NCAA infractions that our university may incur. The University is in the middle of an NCAA-imposed probation. The following incidents involving our male football team may lead to unwanted additional infractions: a total of 12 student-athletes had grade point averages ranging from 1.60 to 1.75; and Billy Joel, the teamââ¬â¢s current quarterback, made an oral agreement on future possible plans with Whitney Houston, a sports agent. Allow me to expound on my point. The fact that five juniors, two sophomores, and five starters on defense have averages from 1.60 to 1.75 goes against the academic standards set my NCAA. The five starters, all of whom were freshmen last year, had averages lower than the NCAA set average of 1.8. The NCAA Backgrounder on Academic Reform clearly states the following: ââ¬Å"Freshmen in college are required to complete 24 hours of course work and have at least a 1.8 grade-point average.â⬠The low GPAs of the other student-athletes may also compromise another rule of the NCAA. The fact that these students have averages ranging from 1.60 to 1.75 may mean that they have failing marks which may greatly affect the completion of their degree requirements. Again, the said backgrounder is univocal: ââ¬Å"Student-athletes entering college are required to complete 40 percent of their degree requirements by the end of their second year, 60 percent by the end of year three, and 80 percent by the end of year four.â⬠I will personally look into this matter and investigate on the completion rates of the degree requirements of these concerned students. Nevertheless I think it is important for your good office to be aware of this potential problem. All in all, this lower than required grade point average of some of our student athletes undermines the NCAAââ¬â¢s set Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 925. Not complying with the APR will mean a contemporaneous penalty for the football team which, in plain language, refers to cuts in financial aids and scholarships granted to individuals in the team. Madam, it is also bothersome that the coaching staff hid these from the school administration. I cannot pinpoint who exactly in the coaching staff is culpable, but once NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions holds its own investigation, the university as an entity might not the only one to be given a sanction; individuals from the coaching staff (and other individuals from related departments) may also be held individually liable and as such, individual sanctions may be imposed against them. The last concern that I think should be brought up to your office is the fact that Billy Joel made an oral agreement with Whitney Houston, a sports agent, as he was threatened by the possibility that Marshall Mathers might take his place as quarterback. Again, NCAA is clear in its memo to directors of athletics dated October 6, 2006, that student athletes are not allowed to have a written or oral agreement with an agent who represents a sports agency. We must bear in mind that even if Joelââ¬â¢s agreement rests on the future possibility of Mathers replacing him, such an oral agreement on future plans is also not allowed: student athletes may not ââ¬Å"agree to be represented by an agent in the futureâ⬠(NCAA, ââ¬Å"A Career in Professional Athletics: A Guide for Making the Transition,â⬠2004, p. 26). This also highlights the fact that Mr. Joel did not inform either his coach or his compliance coordinator regarding these matters. The Theme of Society in Pride and Prejudice free essay sample
Originally written in the late 1700s, Jane Austenââ¬â¢s Pride and Prejudice satirically depicts the universal ideals in Old Regency England, primarily regarding social class. Austen follows the development of an outspoken middle-class British woman, Elizabeth Bennet, as she encounters and overcomes the many social barriers that separate her from her wealthy upper-class neighbors. Throughout the novel, Lizzie must confront societyââ¬â¢s class-consciousness, particularly with her familyââ¬â¢s growing relationship with the wellborn Bingleys and their friend, Mr.Darcy. It is clear that the author, Jane Austen, intended Pride and Prejudice to be a parody of the Old English societyââ¬â¢s extreme emphasis on the social class structure and marriage that is not based on the heart but instead on convenience. Although our present-day social class system is more flexible than it was back then, members of the elite, especially celebrities, are still more apt to marry other upper-class citizens, rather than their social inferiors. For example, in todayââ¬â¢s society it is the standard for rock stars, actors and models to pursue partners from a comparable social class. Similarly, a marriage between Fitzwilliam Darcy and Anne de Bourgh, daughter of the distinguished Lady Catherine de Bourgh, is expected because both parties are of equally notable lineage and hail from the same prestigious family. The union between the two aristocrats was planned ââ¬Å"while in their cradlesâ⬠, according to Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who makes a trip to Longbourn to see Elizabeth after hearing that she is engaged to Anneââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"future husbandâ⬠.Lady Catherine is horrified that the anticipated matrimony may ââ¬Å"be prevented by a young woman of inferior birth, of no importance in the world, and wholly unallied to the familyâ⬠and makes every effort to prevent any chance of an engagement between Elizabeth and Darcy. During this confrontation, Lady de Bourghââ¬â¢s behavior towards Elizabeth is quite a stonishing and completely supports societyââ¬â¢s upper class prejudices and narrow-minded ignorant views towards the lower classes. If Lady de Bourgh had not had such stately ancestry, she may have lowered her social status with her ridiculous conduct.Lady Catherineââ¬â¢s ludicrousness is most likely taken from her haughty ego, which society has helped create by holding the upper class up on a pedestal. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen speaks of a world where a personââ¬â¢s, more importantly a womanââ¬â¢s, reputation is a paramount obsession. A woman is made to believe to have to behave in certain ways; stepping outside the social normality makes her open to being banished from mainstream society. A prime example of this is when Lydia gets an invitation to visit and stay with the officers. Of course, Mrs.Bennet, the most obvious, oblivious, loud social conscious creature of Longbourn is all ââ¬Å"happy go luckyâ⬠when she hears of Lydiaââ¬â¢s call. Mr. Bennet who is the most stoic contradictory of Mrs. Bennet is even excited. However, when the news provoking invitation turns into a merciless elopement between Mr. Wickham and Lydia Bennet it sends shockwaves through the Bennet household. By becoming Wickhamââ¬â¢s lover without being married, Lydia clearly places herself outside the social ââ¬Å"normâ⬠, and her disgrace threatens the entire Bennet family and their standing in society.The fact that Lydiaââ¬â¢s terrible judgment would have condemned the other Bennet sisters to marriage less lives is a ridiculous but accurate tell of the stress put on the hierarchy that is Old English society. This theme also appears in the novel when Elizabeth walks to Netherfield and arrives with a muddy skirt, to the horror of the reputation-conscious Miss Bingley. At other points, the ill-mannered, ridiculous behavior of Mrs. Bennet gives her a bad reputation with the snobbish Darcys and Bingleys.Austen pokes gentle fun at the snobs in these examples, but when Lydia elopes with Wickham and lives with him out of wedlock, the author treats reputation and class as a very serious matter. Society is closely related to reputation, in that both have the strictly scrutinized way of life for the social classes of England. Even though the gap between the upper classmen Bingleys and the lower or middle classmen Bennets is as wide as the Amazon River, the Bennets may socialize with the Bingleys.However, they are obviously the lower level socialites and are treated as so. A prominent example of this discrimination was the Bingley sistersââ¬â¢ rude and disrespectful manner towards Elizabeth while she stayed at Pemberley to comfort Jane when she was overcoming her sickness. Austen again satirizes this kind of severe class-consciousness in the character of Mr. Collins, who spends most of his time sucking up to his upper-class patron Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Though Mr.Collins offers an extreme example, he is not the only one to hold such views. His view of the importance of class is shared by Mr. Darcy, who believes in the dignity of his roots; Miss Bingley, who dislikes anyone not as socially accepted as she is; and Wickham, who will do anything he can to get enough money to raise himself into a higher station. The satire directed at Mr. Collins is therefore also more subtly directed at the entire social hierarchy and the conception of all those within it, in complete disregard of other, more worthy virtues.Through the Darcy-Elizabeth and Bingley-Jane marriages, Austen shows the power of love and happiness can actually overcome class boundaries and prejudices, thereby showing that even if prejudices are hollow, unfeeling, and unproductive they can turn out to mean nothing to some people. Nonetheless, people similar to Miss Bingley as well as her friends are still trapped in the warped obsessive ladder that is the autocratic society that Jane Austen portrays throughout Pride and Prejudice. Essay on How does Heat Transfer Works I chose the topic of heat transfer because I find it really intriguing to learn about. I wanted to look further into how heat from two substances reacts with one another through another material that was placed between them. I will be looking at how to calculate the rate of heat transfer in a one dimensional space. This means that I will only be focusing on two temperatures, one hot and one cold, and a medium of which the heat will pass through. External factors such as other temperatures and time will not be used as they are for three dimensional spaces. Heat is a type of energy that transfers between two pieces of matter that have different temperatures. There are three ways heat can be transferred. The first way is through radiation and the second is convection. The third way is through conduction which is when an object or material conducts the heat from one substance through itself and to another. This is the method I will be focusing on. As stated in the second law of thermodynamics, heat flows from the matter or objects with the higher temperature to the one containing lower temperature and is not possible from cold to hot. This will continue until both objects have reached a thermal equilibrium. At this point, one object does not contain a higher temperature than the other, so the heat transfer ends. The rate at which the heat is transferred depends on the composition of the material that separates the two temperatures. For example, the rate at which heat flows from hot water to cold water through a copper cup will be different than if the cup is porcelain. The rate that the heat energy is transferred is directly proportionate to the rate at which the temperature changes. Also, since the lower temperature is gaining the same amount of heat that the higher temperature is losing, the graphs of these two should be negative reciprocals of each other. The higher temperature ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ will generally have a negative slope whereas the lower temperature ââ¬ËBââ¬â¢ will have a positive slope. When both A and B have the same temperature, as mentioned before, they have reached a thermal equilibrium and therefore will have a slope of zero as neither one is gaining or losing heat. This chart represents the increase and decrease in temperature due to the loss and gain of heat. It does not represent any set data and is not a completely accurate diagram. The heat that the hot water loses is gained by the cold water. This continues until the hot water is the same temperature as the cold water. At this point, neither one is warmer nor colder than the other, so the transfer stops, resulting in a gradient of zero. To start off, I have two variables to work with. The first variable is the difference in temperature of the two objects; in this case, it is water. The second variable is the composition of the material that is separating the two different temperatures. I have considered this variable because it is directly involved with the heat transfer as the heat energy is passing from one object, through the material, and into the second object. As mentioned before, heat flows from the region with the higher temperature to the region with the lower temperature. Let G represent the rate at which the heat is transferred through conduction. This should be equivalent to the temperature gradient of dT/dx , where T(x) is the temperature and x is the distance travelled in the same direction and the heat is flowing. G=dT/dx However, with the current equation, there is no variable for the area of which the heat is transferring through. It only states that the gradient of dT/dx is the rate at which heat is transferred. It implies that the heat transfer between two substances will be the same if the area is 5cm2 and if it is 5km2. Area is another variable that affects the rate at which heat transfers. The larger the area of a medium, the more heat is transferred because there is more surface area that is conducting the heat from one substance and into another. An example of this is a large window in a building compared to a smaller one. Rooms with large windows tend to be colder because more heat has been lost from there. G=A dT/dx dT/dx is the temperature gradient in the direction which is normal to the area. This equation includes the area (A) of the surface that the heat is passing through, but it does not factor in the conductivity of the material placed between the two substances. Let the variable c represent the thermal conductivity of the material involved in the transfer. G=K A dT/dx In addition, the second law of thermodynamics states that heat energy must flow from a warmer region to a colder one. Heat transfer that takes place in a room is similar to the examples I have given, except that it occurs in three dimensional spaces. This means that other factors are required to make the equations work and come up with an appropriate answer. From these equations, other ones can be created to solve many other problems on heat transfer. Anywhere that temperature exists, there is some sort of heat transfer happening. Oliver Twist Charles Dickens, probably one of the most popular writer and humorist of his century was born at Landport in Portsea, on February seventh, 1812. His father, John Dickens was a clerk in a navy-pay office, and mother Elizabeth Borrow, along with his eight other siblings, which the other two died in infancy, lived in Portsea, and were fairly poor. Because of the arising poverty in his life time, Charles Dickens was forced to work as a child laborer when he was just twelve year of age. Although Charles Dickens faced many challenges in his young life, his love for writing dominated all of the challenges he faced in life. Perhaps, his book, Oliver Twist, was about, well, mainly about his life as a child. Although Dickens wrote Oliver Twist while he was finishing The Pickwick Papers and editing Bentley's Miscellany, he managed to make the novel remarkable for it's clarity of purpose and it's sustained intensity(The Cambridge guide to Literature in English; Ian Ousby). The story that lies behind the infamous story of a little orphan boy named Oliver is very different from his other previous novels. Other critics say that Oliver Twist is barely a novel, but more as a satire or sarcasm about the victorian era. First of all, the story begins with a young woman who gave birth to a boy whom they named Oliver. The young woman did not even have any time to hold her new born, but just in time to kiss him, then shortly died after that, the boy on the other hand survived, not knowing what kind of twist and turn his life would take as he grows and faces the real world. As the boy grew in a very vain and cruel environment, his turns in life was not going too good either. Having the parish not enough facilities for his care, Oliver was forced to move and work as a child laborer and in the care of a very greedy woman named Mrs. Mann. Child labor was very common back then, and there was an actual law that was set to eliminate poverty by starving the poor, that was called the Poor Law of 1834.(The Life of Charles Dickens;John Forester) Dickens used this law in his story to satarize the living in London, in the 19th century, and probably because he experienced child labor when he was growing up, and therefore tried to emphazise the way he lived back then. As soon as Oliver turned nine years old, Mr. Bumble, the beadle of the parish which where Oliver was born, took Oliver with him to work as an oakum picker. But because of the increasing of poverty, Oliver and the other workers were only fed little pieces of food. In the midst of starvation, one of Oliver's friend pursued Oliver to ask for some more food, and by that, Oliver was taken to a dark room for a week for his "disrespectfulness." Perhaps, Dickens was trying to tell the readers how the life of a poor boy be so unimportant to those who dominates him, and thus the other children living in povety also. This challenge of Oliver's life is just preparing him for the other eventful changes in his immediate future. Soon after, a reward was posted on a board for anyone who would like to take an orphan boy to their care, and will be offered five-pounds. Mr. Gamfield was willing to accept the boy for a bribe of five-pounds, but because of his bad publicity, meaning he had already lost the lives of several of his apprentices, he was told to be paid three- pounds and ten-shillings, instead of the five-pounds that was promised. Mr. Gamfield agreed to the proposition, and so did the board. Later, brought before a local judge for approval that Oliver was to be cared by Mr. Gamfield, the near sighted judge, searching for his ink bottel, caused him to look at the frightened face of Oliver, and then quickly realized that he would do something wrong if he let Oliver go with Mr. Gamfield, dropped and refused to sign the papers of approval, and told Oliver to return to the workhouse where the offering of five-pounds to anyone that

Heart Of Darkness The contrast between Kurtz's intended and black mistress The Heart of Darkness is a story about a man telling a tale of an adventure that he had on the Congo River. During this adventure he meets a guy named Kurtz. Kurtz was congregating with a tribe of people who worshiped him and did what ever he told them to do. Kurtz was a very special person in the way he influenced the feelings of two very different, but somewhat similar women. Among this tribe of savages was a woman that was said to have been Kurtz's mistress. Back home he had a woman who he was supposed to marry. Kurtz's black mistress and intended were two very different people, from different places, who shared the same devotion towards him even though there were many obstacles in the way of their love. Kurtz's intended was from the city and was well off with money. Kurtz's black mistress was in a tribe of savages in Africa. She to was well off in her possessions. You could tell she was well off or important in the things she wore and the way that Marlow described the way she carried herself and the way the other members of the tribe watched what ever she did. In the city the intended's family labeled Kurtz as being not good enough. Marlow says that it was because, he was not rich enough or something. (p.249) This is ironic because his black mistress' tribe or family treats him like a god. Both women felt the same undying devotion to Kurtz. When Kurtz was being taken away by Marlow on his ship the tribe came running and hollering trying to get him back. The woman even entered the water with her arms stretched towards the boat. Marlow blew the whistle to scare away the tribe. This worked and even made the ones closest to the shore fall down flat on their face as if they were dead. The whistle did nothing to the woman and she remained in the water with her arms out. The whistle did not scare the woman like it did the rest of the tribe because she was devoted to Kurtz and wanted to be with him. Kurtz intended shared the same devotion towards him as the black tribal woman did. Marlow went to see her, a year after the death of Kurtz, and she was still in mourning. The woman accepted Marlow into her home because he was a friend of Kurtz. She was glad he had visited, so she would have someone to talk to about him. She talked of how she loved him and of how he needed her. They talked of when he died and she got upset. She said, And I was not with him.(p.251) She said she would have treasured everything he did and said. Marlow tells her that he was with him till the end and that he heard his last words. She wanted to know what they were and said, Repeat them?I want-I want-something-something-to-to live with.(p.251) She says this so Marlow will tell her his last words. He tells her that his last words were her name. This makes her feel good and at the same time makes her weep in her hands. Kurtz played an important role in the lives of both women and had a tremendous impact on the way they loved him. Both women were very different and at the same time very similar in the way they loved Kurtz. Both went through very tramadic experiences to show their undying love for him.

The project includes the standard methodology to develop the system and documenting of project as well. The methodology selected by our team is SSADM which stands for structured system analysis and design. The selected methodology has been clearly justified and compared to other related methodology. All the mandatory requirement and specification for creating the system design are explained briefly. Physical and logical designs are mapped accurately having clear and detailed documentation of designing phase. To complete this project in effective way . had contributed their best so that all criteria can be covered efficiently. Anyone can understand easily as there is a good command on language through the whole documentation of project. Introduction They were two students Sue Tom Bickford studying in college who also worked as part time job in a restaurant and always dreamt to open their own restaurant. Their initial investment was always out of reach so they noticed many restaurants that offer home delivery service . They got an idea of opening their own restaurant without high investment . This idea came to their mind after meeting many people who wanted home delivery service with their complete food selection. By this, they opened a restaurant ââ¬Å"Waiter on Wheelsâ⬠in 1997. This restaurant provides food delivery to the customers by gathering the meals form different restaurants and providing under one roof. Customers liked this service very much and their business waiter on wheels was increasing day by day. As there was increase in the number of customers and their orders they started facing some problems to run their business effectively. Analysis of current system Now we are going to analyze the current system of waiter on wheels. Customer calls waiter on wheels to place the order, waiter on wheels will then inform to related restaurants and to driver to take the delivery form the restaurant and place it to the desired customer address. The driver picks the order form restaurants and delivers to the customer and comes back to waiter on wheels. Problems faced in existing system * Limited user involvement Inadequate resources requirement * Business requirement have changed between commencement and deliverance * Absence of CASE support for analysis and design * Low level of involvement of users was due to lack on ownership and assurance of the system * Inadequate techniques * Inadequate designing and tools * No updating of database management system Solutions for the existing problems: The only solution for the problem is to adapt the computerized customer support system to support their business operations which will help them with the accurate and faster calculations to produce * End of day deposit slip Weekly report of restaurants * Sales report as per their desire i. e. weekly or monthly * Able to record orders effectively and informing end user efficiently * Inform drivers and restaurants at a click of button. * Increase delivery performance by flow of data in an efficient way Feasibility study Feasibility is defined as the viability of project feasibility does not solve any problem but it gives a scope of solving a problem. The aim of our feasibility report is to find out the problem of the current system in waiters on wheels and meet the end users requirements. Realism of project To decide whether the aims stated in the project are realistic within the given constraints. Scope of improvements In current system there are lots of problem with recording order, producing day and weekly sales report which leads to inconsistency in delivering the meals ordered on time and running the restaurant. We are developing a system which will help sorting out such problems effectively and efficiently. Specialist assistance We are developing a user friendly system so that no specialization is equired to operate the system, even a person with little bit knowledge in computers will be able to operate it. Principle work area To determine whether the principle work areas relating to the aims stated in the project permit planning of full investigation including the project teams departments and application involved. Feasibility report Our feasibility report consists of: * Technical feasibility * Operational feasibility * Schedule feasibility * Economic feasibili ty Technical Feasibility: Technical feasibility address three major issues * Is the proposed system technology is practical Does the organization currently possess the necessary technology * Does the organization possess the necessary technical expertise * And if the technology is not present then is it affordable by the organization Generally, the technology for the any defined solution is available. The question which should be considered is whether that technology is mature enough to be easily applied to the problem. Some firms like to use latest technology, but most of the firms prefer a mature and proven technology . A mature technology has a larger customer base for obtaining advice concerning problems and improvements. Assuming that the solutionââ¬â¢s technology is practical, the next step is to determine whether it is available in the organization has the capacity to use it? If the answer to nay of the above questions is no, then the possibility of getting it from outside should be considered. If it is available outside, but is too costly for the organization to purchase it, then the alternative that requires the technology is not practical and is technically infeasible. Operational feasibility: In operational feasibility study measures the urgency of the problem or the acceptability of a solution . There are two aspects of operational feasibility which should be considered. * Is the problem worth solving, or will the solution to the problem work? * What do the end users, and the management feels about the problem? This feasibility was carried to get the answer to the question whether the system will be used and implemented if developed. Would there be any resistance from its users. We assume the Economic feasibility to analyze the cost of the project in order to know whether it is worth spending to develop the system. The system that we are going to design is flexible and less expensive which will provide immediate access to records that are only periodically updated. Selecting the methodology In this we have to select the methodology for our project i. e. Waiter on Wheels customer support system. Basically there are two types of methodology used for the projects Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology and Object Oriented Methodology. We have chosen Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) Reasons for selecting this methodology It provides measurable, reviewable and definable product specification. At the end, the process draws on more system personnel resources as well as user involvement. It increases involvement and communication between system and users. It also allows allocation of simpler tasks to junior personnel which mean each and every . member is equally distributed among tasks. A great impact of this methodology is that the total time and cost are greatly reduced, if system developed by this methodology is implemented in the organization. Waiter on wheels then checks the availability of the driver and informs driver to pick the order from the restaurants then restaurants will give the order to the driver The driver will take the order and deliver it to customer, after delivering the order driver will come back and give the bill to waiter on wheels. Now waiter on wheels keeps the record of each and every restaurant, what are the orders taken from them and on which date and time. Weekly or monthly waiter on wheels will pay the bill payment as per the wholesale price or the deal what they have done. Operational feasibility: Operational feasibility is dependent on human resources available for the project and involves projecting whether the system will operate and be used once it is installed. In our project we have analyzed that the contents of operational feasibility in this project are:- * Implementation * Processing * People oriented * Government agencies Implementation: Implementation consists of three parts: Taking order- in this process we are designing our system that will be able to receive orders from customers it is going to work like this when a customer calls on phone or orders online the system is going to record the call by the name and address and the order specified, when the order is recorded by name and address the system is going to make beep sound which will alert the operator and he will be able to hear the voice call directly on the desktop. Order delivery: in this process the system is concerned about how the order is going to be delivered this comes under processing which I will explain further. Reporting back to office: in this process the system will keep a record of the drivers who are reporting back in office after delivery. The next step of operational feasibility is processing:- processing contains following contents:- 1. Receiving the call from customer: which I have already explained that the system will be able to record the call from customer according to their name, address and specifically the order. 2. Informing the driver: In this process we have given the facility that ystem will be able to inform driver according to the given database , we will store the names of driver in accordance with their areas our system will be able to check the availability of driver by following methods when a driver calls to the office and says that he is available the system will immediately record his message and the time of call so it will be easy or the operator to check the availability of driver and when he clicks the option call in front of the names of driver then the syste m will immediately call the driver and the operator will be able to inform him or leave him a message. And as the driver conforms that he is ready to pick the order the system will be able to store his out time on the request of operator clicking on the button out time. 3. Informing the restaurant: The next main step after informing the driver is to inform the restaurant so we have done the following we will give the data base of all the contacted restaurants in the system so the operator will be able to inform the restaurants according to the requirements and the order specified just on a click. 4. Picking the order: Next is all manual process in case the customer wants to change his order then we have decided a time limit for changing the order it is 15 minutes after the original order if the customer calls in between fifteen minutes of his first order then our system will be able to recognize the customers voice and in case voice does recognition does not work system will recognize according to name and address of the customer and it will be able to eradicate the first order and will beep with a voice message that the order of this customer has been changed 5. Delivery: It is a manual process which will be carried by drivers. 6. Collecting money from the customer 7. Reporting back to office: In this process when the driver reports back to the office then the operator will click on his name and on the button in time then the system will immediately notify his time and store it. 8. Calculation of number of orders per day: This will be calculated by the number of orders delivered which is done when the driver enters his in and out time which means that the order has been delivered the system will calculate the number of orders delivered . . Sending statements and paying the money to the restaurants by checks: This is done by the accountant when he checks that how many orders are delivered from which restaurants which will be stored in the system. People oriented: this consists of the following- 1. Receptionist will be the operator of the system she will take orders from the customers and inform drivers and the restaurants. 2. Selection of methodology: we have selected structured system analysis and design methodology. Structured analysis is one of the most popular methodologies that are being used to define system specification. Because of problems faced in traditional system development life cycle approach structured advancement have come up whose purpose is to provide more closely controlled more industrious development surroundings. These include structured analysis and design methodology along with structured programming. A structured approach to the analysis and design of systems differs from the traditional SDLC approach where it calls for the systems analyst to look beyond a physical view of the current system. The result of SDLC is generally inflexible and unmaintainable system. This methodology uses logical process design. I used this customer ID in customer form next one is address I used this in customer form to record the address of costumer, next is contact details and name to record the details of costumer. Next is the attributes for order that is number of items and related restaurants these attributes I used in invoice details form Next one is the attributes of driver that is name, driver ID, address, contact no. , reporting time this one is mentioned in driver details in physical design . this will record driver details in the form. Now we come to invoice details there is whole sale price, sales tax, service charge, and delivery charge. These attributes are used in the invoice form to record the invoice details. Next entity is restaurants which have the following attributes menus, wholesale price and number of items this is used in transaction per day. Physical design is clearly mapped to the logic given by logical designer. The main objective of the project is to identify the different framework of activities associated with methodologies and describe how the techniques are used together to develop a system using SSADM. Introduction Tom Bickford and Sue were two students in the college they always wanted to open their own restaurant which should provide meal delivery service to the customers. They started the restaurant ââ¬Å"Waiter on Wheelsâ⬠with very low initial investment in 1997 . When customer calls waiter on wheels and places the order, then waiter on wheels will inform the related restaurant for the order and send the driver to pick up the order from the restaurant and deliver it to customer. There business was increasing day by day as customer liked their food delivery services. Now as there was increase in number of customerââ¬â¢s waiter on wheels started facing some problems to run their business. System Development Life Cycle Structures of SSADM 1. Feasibility Study ââ¬â in this we decide which and what are the methods or techniques that we can adopt , what will be the cost of the project and how much time will project take to accomplish 2. Requirements Analysis ââ¬â in this we analysis the requirements for our system, do we have enough technology or resources to fulfill the client requirements. 3. Requirements Specification detailed functional and non-functional requirements are identified and new techniques are introduced to define the required processing and data structures. 4. Logical System Specification ââ¬â for each and every project we need to have a logical design so that we can get entire idea for the project and it will help in the implementation. 5. Physical Design a physical database design and a set of program specifications are created using the logical system specification Problem Identification Planning Analysis Logical Design Physical Design Implementation Maintenance Problems faced in existing system * Limited user involvement: There were very few people involved in running this meal delivery system. They were having only one driver for the night shift, contract with only two restaurants in that area. According to increasing demand of customers, they need to get more drivers and contract with more restaurants in order to deliver the variety of food on time. * Inadequate resources requirement: As initial investment in opening restaurant was quiet less, they were not having adequate resources like delivery vehicles, mobile phones as waiter on wheels was meal delivery service. They need to get more delivery motorcycles and mobile phones so that they might contact with the driver on the way if there is any change in order or driver has to pick the order form some other restaurant. * Business requirement have changed between commencement and deliverance: As waiter on wheels was a meal delivery service which provides food from different related restaurants and deliver it to customer at one place. As this delivery business started by only contract with two restaurants and few customer. Customers were increasing day by day there was change in business functions which lead to problems like they were not able to deliver orders on time, not able to get in touch with the customer, delivering wrong order. Then they realized to input computerized customer support system. * Absence of CASE support for analysis and design: Tom and Sue started waiter on wheels without analyzing the current business situation and future planning . They didnââ¬â¢t do any feasibility study before starting this meal delivery system which later on started causing them problems. Low level of involvement of users was due to lack on ownership and assurance of the system: As there was low level of involvement in the entire delivery system, there were few people involved in this business. Their business was running smooth with limited number of customers and restaurants. But when the customer demand increased they were not able to manage the business effectively. * Inadequate tools and techniques: For each and every business some tools and techniques are required to run it in effective way . But in waiter on wheels they didnââ¬â¢t use any techniques to run the business that was the reason why they were not able to manage their business properly. When all things started messing up, then they realized to input some technique in order to manage their business and implemented computerized customer support system which will help them in managing the details of orders, customers and sales report etcâ⬠¦ * Inadequate designing: As waiter on wheels was a restaurant they need to have a menu and forms for the customers, so that customer can place the order easily. But they were having nothing like that when customer calls to place the order they just tell the lists of items on the phone and receive the order. But as per the customer needs they start designing the forms, bills, menu cards for the ease of customer. * No updating of database management system: They do not keep track of the sales report, drivers, customers, order. Selecting the methodology In this we have to select the methodology for our project i. e. Waiter on Wheels customer support system. Basically there are two types of methodology used for the projects Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology and Object Oriented Methodology. SSADM stands for Structured Systems Analysis and Design Method. It was developed for the stages of system analysis and design of system development. This method is most established and widely adopted. SSADM uses a mixture of text and diagrams in system development life cycle, from the starting of the project till physical design SSADM is waterfall-based methodology. It flows like the waterfall starts from initial stage and then moves forward step by step till reaches the goal state , if there are any changes to be made it will again start from the first and then carry on with the entire task . We have chosen Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) because this methodology is very helpful to systems analyst. It makes sure that they are not floundering in deep of complexity but can beneficially work on a system . This methodology often results in method for each project; it provides a firm basis for project controlling and scheduling. The project can be broken in several steps of the methodology and a variety of individuals and teams can set different steps to perform their task. This makes it easier for the project manager to estimate the duration and cost of the project. Gantt chart: Techniques used by SSADM SSADM uses a combination of three techniques: * Logical Data Modeling * Data Flow Modeling * Entity Behavior Modeling Investigation techniques The investigation techniques are * Questionnaires * Interview * Survey * Studying Documentation * Observation For our project I followed two investigation techniques from the among above listed i. e. * Interview * Studying Documentation Interview: As the project is concerned with the restaurant which provides service as home delivery I went to some restaurants providing the same service as waiter on wheels and I conducted short interview with manager of Dominos Restaurant to know what are the procedures tools and techniques followed by them in order to run their restaurant effectively. This information was very helpful throughout the project and also gave us idea about the meal delivery systems. After the interview in Dominos I went to other restaurants to know about their current delivery system followed by them. As I concluded form this that almost all the restaurants adopt same procedure and techniques for the meal delivery system. These programs and files will fulfill the logical design requirements but may be subject to some constraints and compromises. Design objectives The system is designed based on the objec tives set for the new information system in the strategic plan. Organizational objectives such as: * Increasing the business profit Securing a larger market share * Improving customer service There are three main objectives which the designer has to bear in mind while evolving and evaluating design * Performance, how fast the design is secure against human error, machine hardware resources * Control, the extent to which the design is secure against human errors, machine malfunction, or deliberate mischief. * Changeability, the ease with which the design allows the system to be changes to, for example meeting the userââ¬â¢s needs to have different transactions types processed. Logical to physical design Files or database: Based upon the entity-relationship model and supported by the entity life history and the data dictionary * Processes and programs: Based upon the processes of the data flow diagram and supported by the entity life history and data dictionary * Input and output: Based upon the flow of the data flow diagram and supported by the data dictionary * Interfaces : Underpinned by understanding of requirements and skills level explored within the context of the data flow diagram * Controls: Supported by the data flow diagram On the basis of logical designing i. e. ER-diagram and data flow diagram I have designed the forms that are required by our develop system to keep the records of customers, drivers, orders, sales report and weekly reports for the convenience of waiter on wheel employees. Customer Information Form This is customer information form which will store customer details such as: * Customer ID * Customer Name * Customer Address Driver Information Form This is driver information form which will store driver details such as: * Driver ID * Driver Name * Contact No: * Reporting Time: * Delivery Time: * Closing Shift Time: Invoice Bill Form This form will print the amount of bill to be paid by the customer, this form consists of: * Date / Time : * Customer Name : * Customer Address : * Customer Phone Number : * Order Details : * Total Amount to be paid : This form will store and print the sales report at the end of day, this form consists of: * Order Details : * Total Number of Orders in a day: * Total Sale of day: Transaction per Day Report This form will store and print weekly sales report at the end of week, this form consists of: * Order Details : * Payment Details: * Restaurant Name: * Bill to be paid: * Status: * Cheque No: Weekly Report Conclusion While doing this project I have concluded that system development life cycle (SDLC) is one of the best ways to carry a project which also helps me in learning the skills of project management. Among this there are seven phrases followed by a project manager or an organization to develop the information system. One of the phases is designing under which logical and physical design are mentioned. Inform drivers and restaurant at the click button Feasibility report Before I lay down the reports for the feasibility, we must be aware of the term feasibility. Feasibility is defined as the viability of project feasibility does not solve any problem but it gives a scope of solving problem. The aim of feasibility report is to find out the problem of the current system and meet the end user requirement. Our feasibility reports consist of the following: 1. Technical feasibility . Operational feasibility 3. Schedule feasibility 4. Economics feasibility Out here I will be reporting on technical feasibility. In this feasibility there are problems or issues which have to be looked at. The issues are as follows: * Is the proposed system technology is practical * Does the organization currently possess the necessary technology * Does the organization possess the necessary technical exp ertise * And if the technology is not present then is it affordable by the organization. Generally, the technology for the any defined solution is available. The question which should be considered is whether that technology is mature enough to be easily applied to the problem. Some firms like to use latest technology, but most of the firms prefer a mature and proven technology . A mature technology has a larger customer base for obtaining advice concerning problems and improvements. Assuming that the solutionââ¬â¢s technology is practical, the next step is to determine whether it is available in the organization has the capacity to use it? If the answer to nay of the above questions is no, then the possibility of getting it from outside should be considered. If it is available outside, but is too costly for the organization to purchase it, then the alternative that requires the technology is not practical and is technically infeasible. Here you can clearly see that in the customer information we see that for every customer we have date, customer id, time, customer name and customer address. When the customer places the order we keep record of all the above information. First we note down the time and date at which the customer places the order and give them a customer id. After that we jot down their address. This is all we have in our screen shot 1 Screen 2: In screen shot we deal with the driverââ¬â¢s information that is responsible for delivery. All the details of the driver are fed in the form. The details which includes in the form are as follows: Driver name/id Order id Delivery time Closing shift time Contact no Reporting time Order time Screen 3: Third screen deals with the invoice bill. In this again date, time ,customer id, customer name, customer address are mentioned. There we also mention all the details of order such as items. Quantity and rate. And the total amount. This is for the customer so that he must be made aware of the orer he has placed and how much he is going to pay for his order. Screen4: Fourth screen deals with the transaction per day form. In this form all the details of the daily transaction are mentioned. Transaction form consists of order detail, total number of order placed in a day and total sale. In order detail all the details including the time at which it was ordered, then the name of drivers and his id is written . the name of restaurant and total bill are also mentioned. This helps them to maintain the record of their daily sales. Screen 5: Fifth form deal with all the information related to weekly report.
